“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” -Revelation 21:8
Most people see witchcraft as casting spells on people, talking to demons, or doing things to try and spiritually control an outcome that is not going by the way of our creator. But what if I told you that witchcraft goes much deeper, can be subtle, and that idolatry can go hand in hand with witchcraft? In this article, we are going to look at some of these things.
Galatians 5:19-21: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have told you in times past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
While some Christians may view these following things as harmless, fun, and entertaining; they not only separate you from God because you are disobeying him, but you are also opening up spiritual doors to bring trouble into your own life.
While we all have trials and battles, the enemy cannot cross over into your side without being invited. Your invitation to them begins when you decide to step into their playing field, and entertain them and yourselves with the things they have to offer. These open doors can make it difficult to hear from God or even cause a spiritual down fall.
The crafts that we commonly know as witchcraft are:
Necromancy: the ability to seek out and speak with the dead for future insight, advice, or for comfort. King Saul was put to death for this grievous sin.
Quiji Boards, Pencils, and the like: used to contact the dead or to speak with demonic entities.
Taro Cards, Angel Cards, Horoscopes, Tea Leaf Readings, Palm Reading, Soothsaying, and the like: used to predict the future.
Magic, spells, enchantments, astro-projections, charms, divinations, bewitchery, and the like: These are when spiritual demonic entities are used to force or control an outcome in one's favor. It can trigger a magical/spiritual effect on a person or an object.
Crystals, Sage Burning, All Seeing Eye, Spiritualism, Yoga, Mysticism, Eastern Meditation, and the like: Scripture never ever tells us to clear an area by way of sage burning. In fact, it invites spirits in because you are doing things that God never commanded you to do. Evil spirits do not flee with a smell of sage, but by the name of Yeshua Christ. The all seeing eye, is not the eye of Jehovah, it is the eye of another god. We can know this because Jehovah never commanded it. We also were never told to sit and clear our minds to meditate but we were commanded to meditate on the word of God. We also do not find our healing in crystals or any other objects, this is both idolatry and witchcraft.
Dream Catchers, Totem Poles, images of other gods, or statues of mother Mary, and the like: These are mainly idolatry but can also be indicative of witchcraft because you are giving way to other spiritual entities in your life than God alone. We were never commanded in scripture to use man made objects to catch spiritual things, like our dreams. This is blatant disrespect and disobedience to Jehovah.
Board and Video games containing witchcraft/spells/sorceries/mages/violence/nudity/crime/and the like, along with movies, book, and music that contain such things are giving your minds over to seducing spirits. There are many who started their porn addiction off with rated R movies that show soft porn. Some become curious about witchcraft through these things, until they find themselves in bondage. Everyone started off by becoming seduced at some point by some spiritual door that they opened up into their life. Something that they viewed has harmless but it was spiritual poison.
Mind altering drugs like LSD/Acid/Extreme Alcohol consumption, and the like: Yes, some herbs were made by God and according to scripture may be used for food and medicine, but just like most everyday useful things that we have available to us, even the herbs of the field can be abused when used in manners that cause an alternate state of mind. When you do these things, you leave your mind vulnerable to spiritual attacks.
While this is not an all inclusive list, it is one that should give the reader a good idea of what to stay away from. We can always play it safe by staying away from the things that God never commanded us to do or those things which we know he did command us not to do.
Satan will often counterfeit what God does, but its just that. It is not the genuine thing and therefore, will either fall apart or come with spiritual consequences. If we can learn anything from King Saul, it should be not to look for divine inspiration anywhere other than the word of God.
1 Samuel 15:23-26: For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king. And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovah, and your words: because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, I pray you, pardon my sin, and turn again with me that I may worship Jehovah. And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with you: for you have rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah has rejected you from being king over Israel. (also see 1 Samuel 28:12-17, 31:1-13; 1 Chronicles 10:13)
Occult practices and objects give demonic beings permission to be in your life. You open that door when you entertain them them by means of actions that you find fun, or objects that you find interesting, beautiful, or inspiring.
FLEE FROM IDOLATRY. - 1 Corinthians 10:14
You cannot drink of the cup of the Lord and of the cup of devils: You cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to Jealousy? Are we Stronger than he? -1 Corinthians 10:20-21 (For better context read the whole chapter of 1 Corinthians 10. Its too long to write and I am trying to keep this short.)
